Bruce Jackson’s documentation of prisons and the death penalty in the US contributed to France abolishing capital punishment 30 years ago. To recognize his work, the French government recently awarded Jackson L’Ordre National du Mérite (National Order of Merit), the country’s second-highest honor after the Légion d’honneur.
