Kudos to Cisneros for telling cancer story 

Most people don't enjoy having their medical problems aired in public so it's admirable when high-profile public figures are willing to forego a little of their privacy to heighten awareness about a disease.

A few years ago, the late state District Judge Jim Barlow raised awareness in our community about breast cancer in men after his own diagnosis.

Now, Henry Cisneros, former San Antonio mayor and U.S. housing secretary, has gone public with his treatment for prostate cancer. Preventive health screenings too often aren't high on a person's to-do list.
